1 year in lockdown - update and reflection

Today marks 1 year since the first lockdown started. I cannot believe that we've been in a form of
lockdown for officially a year. It seems like only yesterday they announced it, but also feels like we've
been stuck like this for years now. I wanted to do an update and refection post as so much has happened in
a year and this is a post I will definitely want to look back on in years to come when this is just a part of
history rather than it still being our present.

I believe the first lockdown was announced on 20th which was a Friday. The Saturday I was due to go out
for a big family meal as it was my 21st birthday. They closed everything immediately, so I couldn't go out
and celebrate. I understand this is a first world problem but it was so disheartening that the world went to
pot 4 days before my 21st birthday. I was definitely upset, but I still ended up having a great birthday.

Lockdown was lifted and the rule of 6 came in around the same time that pubs and restaurants reopened. I
managed to meet up with some friends and have some drinks which was strange after being inside for so
long. All this time I was on dating sites and adjusting to being single for the first time since I was 17. It
was definitely different than I expected, being newly single, but I'll never know whether that was because
of lockdown or other situations. Somehow I managed to meet someone and start a relationship in the
September, and by the December whilst in lockdown 3, we moved in together.

In lockdown I managed to have some of the best times of my life and some memories that I'll never forget.
But also some of the lowest moments. 2020 was completely shit but with a slight hint of happiness.

MARCH 2021
1 year on from the first lockdown, I am turning 22 tomorrow, celebrating my 2nd birthday in lockdown.
I'm happily living in my own place and love being more independent and am also happy with my work
and job, which I never thought I'd say. There is a lot of good in my life currently, but it's been a hard year.
We've got April 12th and June 21st to look forward too. I've booked in for my brows and nails next month,
which I am beyond excited for and am trying to focus on the positive.

In some ways I've achieved so much since last March and come such a long way, and I could have never
expected my life would turn out this way. In other ways there's been so much negativity happen both
personally and in the world. Everything from COVID, to black lives matter and the riots to recent events
such as the murder of Sarah Everard are moments we will never forget and will affect our entire lives,
which have all happened in the last 12 months. We can only pray that the next 12 months are better.

How has your life changed since last March?

  1. Isn't it crazy to think we've lived through this pandemic for a year?! I was handling it all pretty well but now after 12 months I am starting to really struggle. There were some great things that came from lockdown though and I am trying to hold onto those! :)

    1. It's mad. I agree with you there, I was handling it well until the third lockdown as I was so fed up and over with it x

  2. My life has changed loads! I found out I was pregnant on the 13th of March last year, my I immediately told my manager because of the covid situation and was told to work from home from the 17th, when pregnant people were 'at risk'! Insane! Now I've had a whole baby since then!

    1. Wow! Well congratulations on having a baby, even if it wasn't the time you might've thought x

  3. Wow what a year. It's both gone soo slowly and flown by! So much has changed for me in my career, home life and personal life

    1. I know right! I thought that. Can't believe it's been a year but also feels like so long x

  4. I still can't believe it's been a year! Considering I had been furloughed for most of it, it's gone by so bloody quickly. Happy belated birthday too, hope you had a lovely day!! xx

  5. It is crazy to think that it has taken one whole year to get to where we are now, and even then, we are still not guaranteed everything going back to normal. Covid really does have a lot to answer for.

Also, Happy belated Birthday! I hope you had a good day :)
