3 things they should teach in sex education

By now it's pretty obvious that the sex education that gets taught in schools isn't good enough. The school
curriculum is very limited in what they are willing to share with teenagers about sex and relationships
despite it being a huge part of their lives. I've been very open in regards of everything sex related from;
education, relationships, toys and being sex positive. We are constantly evolving and growing over time
and the education surrounding sex has remained the same. This needs to change.

I was always under the impression that it would take around 6 to 12 months to get pregnant, depending on
your ovulation, and it would be really easy. However that's not the case, and it can take an average of 2
years to fall pregnant. We often here about unplanned pregnancies; from teens and one night stands, but
we don't here about how difficult it can be to get pregnant. There needs to be more education about this as
so many adults go into trying for a baby naively because of this. I was also so unaware of the many other
ways to have a baby such as; donors, IVF and adoption.

When I was taught sex education I remember only learning that sex was for making babies. There was
never a conversation regarding having sex for pleasure. I knew that not every time you had sex resulted in
a pregnancy, but I didn't realise how sex could make you feel and how important it can be. As I got older
there were more conversations about masturbation, but only ever with males. It was embarrassing to admit
that you masturbated as a women as it was shown as disgusting and unfeminine, but why? If I could go
back to my younger self, I would love to tell her that it's not something to be embarrassed about, the
majority of people do it and its nothing out of the ordinary.

The most important piece of information that should be taught in sex education is that you can say no at
any time. You don't just have to say no before sex, you can say no at any point. If you say no half way
through sex that is ok, and if they carry on it is rape. Consent can be withdrawn at any time. I cannot
express how important this is to teach both boys and girls at any age.

  1. I guess they have to be careful telling kids how hard it is to get pregnant as it might encourage them to not have safe sex! I fell pregnant the first month we tried so it really can happen quickly!

    1. I definitely agree with you there but there's pros and cons with both conversations x

  2. My friends and I have been saying this for so long! So much more should be taught to both young men and young women. I agree with all of these!

    1. Thanks lovely! It's insane to me how little knowledge and education is given on the subjects x
