Sex and masturbating whilst on your period | AD spon

This is a product only AD with Satisfyer.

In light of May 28th being world menstrual hygiene day, I wanted to discuss the stigma around
masturbating when you're menstruating. Sex and masturbation is still a hugely taboo topic in regards to
sex and wellness, but especially women's sex and wellness. When you talk about the two together and the
idea of masturbating or having sex when you're menstruating a lot of people are turned off. However this
can actually be really beneficial for the women as well as providing stronger and more intense orgasms.

Satisfyer are leading the conversation and normalising the idea of listening to our bodies and what they
want. For many women their hormones are intensified throughout their period, meaning that they're
sexual desires are increased. The negative discussions regarding pleasure and menstruation surround
the blood and the thought of 'making a mess', are making women afraid to be them true selves.

BENEFITS
Eases cramps - Menstrual cramps are your uterus walls contracting to release the lining. When you have
an orgasm the muscles also contract, and then release. The release will bring your cramps some relief. Sex
also produces endorphins, which make you feel good, working as a distraction from the cramps and pain.
The endorphins that are released from an orgasm, are said to also help relieve stress and headaches.

Shorter periods - Having sex or masturbating on/during your period can actually result in a shorter
cycle. With every orgasm that you have your uterus will contact, and with every contraction the blood
removes faster than it would on it's own.

MYTHS
You can't get pregnant - Although your chances of falling pregnant are reduced, it is still possible. As
sperm can live up to 7 days inside of you and ovulation can happen close to having a period, it is likely.

Increased risk of infection - Unless you are keeping in a tampon, wearing an form of sanitary product
for more than the recommend time, or using/doing something that isn't intended for that purpose, there
is no increased risk of infection. When having penetrative sex, a tampon should be taken out and removed
prior as there is no need for both. It's important to make sure that you clean yourself up thoroughly
afterwards (both when menstruating and not) to avoid common side affects such as a water infection.

No condoms needed -  Just because you are on your period, doesn't mean STI's magically disappear.
Although your chances of getting pregnant on your period is significantly reduced, the risk of catching
an unwanted STI isn't. As blood is involved there is also a higher risk of catching HIV or syphilis. As
condoms are the only form of protection to protect you against both unplanned pregnancies and STI's
it's recommend that you use them even engaging in sex on your's or someone else's period.

MASTURBATION
In a recent study it was shown that over 90% of women recommend masturbating whilst on their
period. Regular masturbation can help to reduce symptoms such as; cramps, headaches, breast pain,
bloating and back ache. During menstruation there is an increased blood flow which can increase
arousal, sensitivity and pleasure, resulting in stronger orgasms.

Yes, masturbating during your period can get slightly messy, however there are easy ways to help the
situation. Simple options include putting a dark coloured towel down, having wipes nearby and having sex
in the shower. Focusing on clitoral and external pleasure and stimulation is a go to. Pleasure doesn't just
have to be penetrative. Sex toys such as; Satisfyer love triangle*, Satisfyer pro 2, Satisfyer curvy 3 and
Satisfyer dual love are all perfect for achieving maximum pleasure, with minimal mess.

    1. Thank you! It's not talked about a lot, so a lot of people don't realise the benefits x
