Getting out of a reading slump

Reading is something that I love to do, and really got into in 2019. You would think that with spending
more time at home last year that I'd have read more, but instead it was the opposite. 2019 I read 52 books,
2020 my goal was the same but I achieved only 19. To some people that's a lot of books and others it's not.
For me it was average, especially compared to previous years, but definitely not what I wanted to achieve.

I have been in a reading slump now for around a year, and I'm fed up. I hate not being in the mood to not
want to pick up and dive into a good book and get lost in a story. 3 and a half months into the year I've
only read 1 book which was This Winter by Alice Oseman. My goal for this year is 26 books and although
I still haven't 9 months left to achieve that, I'm marked as being 4 books behind on Goodreads.

A reading slump is common, especially amongst avid readers but I've never known one last this long. With
a lot of other things happening in my personal life, reading has been put on the back burner. I've decided
to try and stick to a more strict routine to get an even balance. Making sure my blog work is done in the
day, in between work, and the evenings are for relaxing and hopefully more reading.

I've already chose my next book; clap when you land by Elizabeth Acevedo, which is wrote in a poetry
form which makes it even easier to read. I find when I haven't read in a while, the easiest way to get back
into it for me is to listen to the audio book at the same time. I'm not one of these people that can just listen
to the audio book, as I find I get too distracted, so I like to follow along with a physical copy of the book.
Although this is a 400 page book and looking at it can be quite overwhelming, I know that with it being in
poetry form and reading is no 2x speed on Audible it will only take a few hours (audible - 2.45 hours).

Instead of waiting to read another book, I will go onto my next read and so on, hoping to get out of
my slump as soon as possible. This summer there will be some reading challenges that I will take part
in and I want to make sure I enjoy reading again when they come around.

What book are you currently reading?

xoxo

  5. Aww hopefully you can find your spark again for reading. I find when I am in a reading slump that watching Book YouTubers can help as they can inspire you and suggest so many reads you may not have heard of before.
