Getting a better nights sleep | AD Spon

This is a product only AD with Feather and Down

We are supposed to get a full 8 hours of sleep a night. There's a lot of us that will get that, but only by
having weird sleeping patterns, and the others don't actually get 8 hours sleep at all. We all know how
miserable and irritable we get if we haven't had a good nights sleep, so why aren't we making changes to
get a better nights sleep. Since lockdown my sleeping pattern has become a mess, so when Feather and
Down sent me some products, I knew it was finally going to improve!

BEFORE BED
"We spend one third of our lives sleeping, so invest wisely ."

My biggest tip to help you get a better nights sleep is to put your electronics to one side and read
Anytime I pick up a book, no matter what the time, I immediately get sleepy about 30 minutes into it.
Being on your phone keeps your brain constantly active and engaged, never switching down. Exposure to
the blue light from your screen can affect your body clock and is the reason you feel more tired when
there's natural sunlight. You should turn your phone off at least 30 minutes before you go to bed. In a 2009
study is was shown that as little as 6 minutes of reading before bed can help improve insomnia and reduce
stress. Reading before bed has been proven to be more relaxing that music and having a cup of tea.

Setting the environment for sleep is so important. From the noise and lighting to the quality of your
bedding. If you happen to live in a busy area and struggle to sleep you can try earplugs or a white noise
machine. I personally don't mind a little bit of noise when sleeping as I've got used to it over the last 21
years. Lighting is a huge thing when sleeping. I recommend purchasing a black out blind, even if you can
sleep with light, because if you wake up to direct sunlight on your head you will be more prone to
migraines (I learnt this the hard way). I cannot express how important good quality bedding is. We all
know how miserable we get when we go on holiday and sleep on a hard mattress. Invest in a good quality
mattress as they should last around 8 years and will make such a difference to sleeping. People think they
shouldn't invest in bedding as we just sleep on it, but imagine you have a teddy duvet set, it's the only set
you own, and you have to sleep on that in the summer. Imagine how miserable you will be. Invest in good
quality bedding, it doesn't have to be expensive but have a look round before buying the first you see.

PRODUCTS TO USE
"Research shows that lavender increases the brain waves that are associated with
relaxation as it works as an anxiety reliever and a sedative to help calm you down."

I am a night time bather, it's something I love to do and hate when I go somewhere to find there's no bath.
Obviously I do shower, but theres something so relaxing about taking a nice hot bubble bath. I love to use
a bunch of products in my bath including bath salts, essential oils and bath oil to milk* to help set the
scene. The bath oil to milk in infused with the same camomile and lavender, as their other products, to
provide a sense of relaxation whilst also softening and smoothing the skin.

Up until everyone the Lush sleepy body lotion, became everyone's favourite I would've never thought how
a body product can improve your sleep. The soothing body oil* reduces stress and anxiety by decreasing
muscle tension to improve relaxation. This helps to soothe the skin, seal in moisture and calm your senses
as it has a luxurious blend of essentials oils, camomile and lavender. Spray a small amount directly onto
your skin and let it soak in to give a sense of pure relaxation.

One of Feather and Down's products I've always wanted to try is their all purpose sleep balm*. This is a
blend of essential oils and vitamin e which creates a calming fragrance to use on your pulse points.
Massaging this on your pulse points (wrists, temples and neck) makes it last longer due to the beat of your
heart. This is so easy and quick to use that it fits perfectly into your night time routine, and leaves you
wondering how you had a good nights sleep before this.

The best and most known product to help you get a better nights sleep it to use a pillow spray. There are
so many pillow sprays available, and range in price, but my favourite this is by far my favourite I've tried.
This is also available in the 'breathe well' formula, which is enriched with tea tree oil, peppermint and
eucalyptus to soothe and cool the airways whilst you sleep.
