We all say 'I don't have enough time to read', but once we start reading we wonder what we ever did
with all that time before. Over the last few months I've started reading more than I ever have before.
It's my go to escape route. When I want to feel like I'm not here I pick up a book. Over the years that
I've been reading I've discovered that my favourite times of books are romance, contemporary young
adult reads. I gravitate towards these because they make me feel all different types of emotions as
well as being (most of the time) lighthearted and easy to read.
There are very few books that I've been that have fallen into another category, genre or style of
reading. I love the way love is written about and how it makes you feel like nothing else in the world
matters, apart from the ending of the book. I could talk for days about books, how much I love them
and what are my favourites but I wanted to share my top 5 young adult reads with you. Not only
because it's my favourite genre and is my go to read, but also because I don't think enough people
read. We need to stop spending so much time on our phones and electronics and start reading more,
appreciating the literature that people take so much time to write about.
"As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly then all at once."
This book is definitely a classic in the young adult genre. Being described as a book about cancer but
not a cancer book. I haven't read a lot of books that touch on love and terminal illnesses, yet this book
affected my emotions on so many different levels that I didn't realise could happen. The events and
emotions at the start of the book are completely different to the end of the book. There are few times
that I've read a book multiple times and loved it as much as I did the first time. I cried after listening
to the audio book. There is no other book like this out there and if you read one book from this post,
then this is the book I'm going to recommend to you.
"The dog was dead. There was a garden fork sticking out of it."
There are very few books out there that have a main character with autism. There are a lot of books
out their about autism but very few fiction books. I love the overall message of this book and how it
truly portrays someone with autism and everything they are feeling. Each chapter, even the fact that
the chapters are in primer numbers, holds more and more emotional context. There is so many
different and unique parts of this book, that makes it truly unlike any other book I've read before.
"You'd rather make up a fantasy version of somebody in your head, than be with a real person."
After watching the movie on Netflix, I was so intrigued as to how it would be portrayed in a book.
The book and film have the same overall message and storyline, however I look at them both as being
completely different. This is the first book in a trilogy, and I'm still yet to read the following books,
however I know they're going to become some of my favourite too, due to the love story and message
that is portrayed throughout. I can't wait to read the other books and see how the movies pan out.
"I want everyone to meet you. You're my favourite person of all time."
Every time I go on holiday I overpack way too many books and I often try to drag them out and make
them last. This was one of the books that after the first few chapters, I couldn't put it down and I read
the entirety in one day. This is the book that made me fall in love with Rainbows writing. This has a
unique story behind it that is relatable to so many different people, especially teenagers. This book
touches on so many important topics like; family and abuse that is so important to talk about in
literature aimed at teenagers. Out of all of Rainbows books, that I own and have read so far, this is
my favourite and will most likely remain my favourite.
"For the two of us, home isn't a place. It is a person. And we are finally home"
It's no secret that I love a good romance, both in books and in life. There is something so special
about a romance and love story in a book that pulls at a different part of your heart strings. Never
mind a love story set in Paris. There are a lot of romances that are predictable from the start, and this
book has it's ups and downs, which makes you question whether there will be a happily ever after. I
particularly love this book because it's part of a trilogy that all has different stories on different
characters, yet they all tie together.
Keep up to date with what I'm reading and all reviews on my Goodreads page.
