Role model Monday - My mom

This photo is not mine

There are a lot of people who come into mind when I hear the word role model, but the main person I think of is my mom. When I think of my mom and all of the memories we have, it makes me realise that she is truly my role model. The Oxford dictionary defines a role model as someone who a person looks up to, it doesn't mention whether the person has done good or bad deeds or that you have to act a certain way. It is simply defined as someone who a person looks up to and respects.

Growing up I struggled a lot socially which affected my education during primary and secondary school. I had counselling for over 16 years and fought battles that nobody should have to deal with. Throughout all of this and all the good times and the bad, never once did my mom let me give up. I wanted to give up and stop trying at so many different points but my mom being the role model she is, didn't let me. She didn't let me stop doing what I had to do, but instead talked with me and made things easier whilst allowing me to do things at my own pace.

As I get older and start to think about having children, I am often frightened with the thought of failing as a parent. There's only so much you can do in terms of parenting, but as long as your are there for your child and support and talk to them then it will become easier.

I have so many things and memories to be thankful for in my life, but the one thing that I am thankful for is the love and support that my mom gave me growing up and still continues to show me now.

Thank you mom

xoxo
