Winter skincare - Blogmas day 5

Skincare is important year round, but is especially essential during the winter months. In the UK it is cold year round but when it gets to December the UK decides to step it up a notch. My skin is normal  to dry but it gets extra dry and dehydrated during autumn/winter. Because skincare is so important I wanted to make sure that I'd share my winter routine with you all.

When it comes to winter skincare my main aim is to add moisture back into my skin as this time of year is when my skin tends to dry out slightly due to the harsh cold weather. The best way to achieve this is to use an oil cleanser. I take a small amount of this on my hands and massage it into my face to remove my makeup. This removes my makeup super easily but leaves my skin feeling silky smooth.

Even after I've removed my makeup, there is still a small amount that hasn't come of and is sat on your skin which is why it is important to use a toner. The lush tea tree toner is great in the winter because it leaves your skin feeling clean and refreshed whilst also removing excess product.

No matter what time of year it is I always make sure to apply eye cream or an eye product of some sort. I love to apply my eye cream with the Real Techniques roller ball (prep and prime set). The cold metal roller ball helps to de-puff the under eye area, giving a softer and more aware appearance.

The second to last step in my winter skincare routine is obviously moisturiser. The product I am loving currently is the Soap and Glory speed plump moisturiser. This hydrates the skin instantly and leaves your skin looking smooth and refreshed. I only use a small amount as using too much can sometimes have the opposite affect that you are looking for.

Winter is the time of year when you definitely don't want to forget about your lips. The colder weather will almost always dry out our lips, leaving them feeling tight and sore. So it is essential to use a thick lip balm or cream. My personal favourite is the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream because it is super thick but doesn't feel heavy, and it actually feels soothing on your lips.

What is your one essential skincare item this winter?
