Importance of finding your right bra size

I wish I could sit here and throw bras at everyone, because of the struggle that comes along with
finding the perfect one. So many women are wearing the wrong bra size without realising it. I was
one of them. As the majority of us are spending all of our time at home, we are finding ourselves
going braless a lot of the time. That's why I wanted to write this post now, so that when the times
comes to leave the house again and put on a bra (your personal choice) it will be the correct size!

Growing up I've always had a larger chest. But until recently I didn't know quite how big they really
are. I believe I have been measured twice, once at Victoria Secret and once at Marks and Spencer.
Both times I got the same outcome, a 36D. This was a few years ago, so I knew I was wearing the
wrong bra size, but I didn't realise quite how much. At the beginning of the year I was still wearing a
36D bra and decided to sort it out in March. Unfortunately due to the lockdown I couldn't get
measured so I took matters into my own hands.

I found a bra style that I like, surprisingly on New Look, and ordered a few different sizes. By the end
of it I had gone up 2/3 cup sizes and 1 back size. I am now a 38E or a 38F. It makes me feel so uneasy
to think that I was a bra that was 3 sizes smaller than I needed for longer than I want to imagine. We
wouldn't do that with our jeans or shoes, so why do we do it with out chest?

I found out recently that women are supposed to get measured every 6-9 months as our bodies are
constantly changing. Wearing the wrong bra size can increase the strain and pressure on your back,
shoulders and neck. If the cup has creases in you are wearing a cup size that is too big for you. If you
are spilling out of the top, bottom or sides then the cup size is too small for you.The band should sit
flat and straight along your back and the straps should fit on your shoulders without being too tight or
loose enough to fall down. It is recommend that the band is worn on the middle hook, so it can be
tightened or loosed depending on the amount of lift you want as well as weight gain or loss, before
having to go out and purchase a new bra.

Do you think you are wearing the wrong size bra? Check out the bra size calculator
from Marks and Spencer, or the virtual bra whisperer from Curvy Kate.

  5. I’ve never ever had my boobs measured... I might do after I’ve had the baby. I’ve just always guessed. I like something with support and a little push up because I’m quite small! Caitylis x
