First Job Tips

First jobs are always scary and intimidating when you think about it, even if you have been working
for 25 years and have had many jobs. What I think people tend to forget is that everyone has or will
be in the same boat. We all have to start somewhere, whether that's an paper round, babysitting,
dog walking, working in retail or a corner shop. I don't think there is a specific age where you should
make sure that you have a job or else. I think as long as you aren't in your twenties living in your parents
basement, unable to financially support yourself and not doing anything about it, then there is no rush.

It took me a while to even be able to think about getting a job, due to my anxiety. Especially
after applying for 2 jobs and getting turned down. The third time I applied for a job, was when I
actually got a job interview and luckily I got the job as working in retail!

One of the main reasons I think that people are scared to get a job is because we're all
scared of getting rejected and doing a job wrong. I am very lucky in the sense that I only
applied for 2 jobs before getting one, and got my work placement for college straight away.
Something that my teacher told me that I will always remember is; "You'll get turned down a
million times before you get accepted". I love that she told me this because it made me realise that
it wasn't just me who was going through this, and it would happen when the time was right.

Another thing that I like to say to people is; "There is always going to be someone better than you,
but you are always going to be better than someone else". This is a big thing to keep in mind with
a lot of things, whether that be relationships, friends or even job applications.

My top tip for people who are struggling to find a job is to keep at it and persevere, but also to
ask friends and family if they need a babysitter, a dog walker or want any chores doing.
This is the best way to stay busy, earn some money and gain experience.

These were a tips for when applying for your first job. Got anymore?
